Fiber cassette module system is more and more popular because it makes it possible for rapid deployment of high-density data center infrastructure, besides, it also does well in improving troubleshooting and reconfiguration during MACs. MPO/MTP fiber cassette is such a module. Keep reading to know more about MPO/MTP fiber cassette module.

What Is Modular MTP/MPO Cassettes?

In general, MPO cassette as well as MTP cassette module is an LGX format enclosed unit that contains 8, 12 or 24-fiber factory terminated fan-outs inside. The fan-outs typically include such as SC, LC, ST-style connectors plugged into adapters on the front side of the fiber cassette and a MPO/MTP connector plugged into a MPO/MTP adapter mounted at the rear of the cassette.

With pre-engineered cabling management, MTP/MPO to LC fiber cassette provide plug-and-play fiber connectivity, enabling more network flexibility, faster installation, and easier moves, adds and changes, which result in reduced cost of deployment and maintenance.

Common MPO/MTP Fiber Cassettes Types Overview

MPO/MTP fiber cassette is a modular module that enables users to take the fibers brought by a trunk cable and distribute them to a duplex cable. As a pre-terminated fiber product, MPO/MTP cassettes are loaded with 8, 12, 24 or 36 fibers and have LC or SC adapters on the front side and MPO/MTP at the rear, this is to say, inside a standard MPO/MTP cassette module, there is a hydra cable. Here are the three most widely used cassettes, namely 1x MTP(8-Fiber) to 4xLC duplex cassettes, 1x MTP(12-Fiber) to 6xLC duplex cassettes and 1x MTP(24-Fiber) to 12xLC duplex cassettes. The specific port configurations of these three MTP-LC fiber cassettes are displayed in the following picture.

In fact, besides the MPO/MTP-LC cassettes mentioned above, there exists another type of MPO/MTP cassettes. That is MPO/MTP-MPO/MTP fiber cassettes. MPO/MTP conversion cassettes are loaded with 8, 12 or 24 fibers and have MPO or MTP adapters on the both front and rear side.

MPO/MTP Fiber Cassettes Use Case

Using MTP cassettes provides adaptability for the changing data center environment. Facing technology refresh frequencies of 12-18 months, Plug & Play MTP fiber cassettes used in the data center offer a great advantage. When connector requirements change in the future, simply swap the cassettes whilst leaving the existing backbone infrastructure intact. MTP to LC cassettes are a quick and efficient way of deploying MTP connector breakout. Taking the FHD MTP-24 cassette for an example, the following are two application scenes for MTP to LC cassettes.

Type A and AF MTP fiber cassettes are used as a pair in a two cassette method A link to achieve the 25G-25G interconnect. The Type A MTP to LC fiber cassettes is installed in FHD 1U rack mount fiber enclosure, and Type AF MTP to LC fiber optical cassette is placed on one FHD 1U rack mount modular enclosure. Then, one 24 fibers MTP trunk cable connects the two MTP cassettes. This 25G-25G interconnect solution is ideal for data centre (HDA-EDA), backbone cabling and cable management.

Type A and AF MTP fiber cassettes are used as a pair in 10G-10G interconnection. One is deployed in an FHD rack mount fiber enclosure, and the other one is installed in FHD wall mount fiber optic enclosure. This is suitable for backbone cabling, security monitoring cabling and campus network.

FHD MTP/MPO Cassettes and Solutions

FHD high-density series MTP/MPO to LC fibers cassettes are available with 8/12/24/36 fiber counts. These FHD MTP fiber optic cassettes adopt US Conec MTP adapter and corning fiber. And all are fully compliant with the MPO standards with high performance. Featured with modular designs, they are usually installed on FHD fiber optic enclosures.

FHD modular plug and play MTP/MPO cassettes offers flexibility to move, add, or change your cabling, which greatly simplifies cable management especially in high-density data centers.
